This project describes about designing a network for a hospital. In each part of the report, following points will be covered such as:
Questionnaire technique to gather user and business requirements
Target audience
Assessment plan for examiningnetwork performance
Resources required
Network design specification
Implementation of a proposed network for users
Purpose of this project is to create a network for fulfilling hospital related operations that are performed on a daily basis.
Questionnaire:this technique is used to research about the specific requirements of users by using series of questions. These questions are sent to the valid email addresses of the project stakeholders. Questionnaire technique is cost-effective and consumes less time as compared to interview technique. Questions varies according to facts, preferences and behaviour of the users [1].
Questionnaires generally consist of open-ended and closed-ended questions. Open-ended questions are unstructured and does not consists of a specific format. On the contrary, closed-ended questions are sent to the stakeholders in a proper format. Stakeholders have to provide direct answers to the questions framed for them [2].
I have prepared questionnaires for users of hospital
Users:
Receptionist
Accountant
Nursing staff
Doctor
Lab Assistant
Administrator
Patients
Table 1: List of Questionnaires
Users | Questionnaire |
Receptionist | List down the operating system you want to access the network services |
Accountant | Determine the application programs you need to calculate payment details |
Nursing staff | List down the input/output devices required |
Doctor | What devices you need to treat patients |
Lab Assistant | Recommend IP addressing scheme |
Administrator | What features you need in the network |
Patients | List the resources you require to access the designed network |
Administrator | Describe about network configuration |
Receptionist, Accountant, Administrator, Patients, Doctor | State the CPU requirements |
Lab Assistant, Administrator, Accountant, Receptionist | Describe about memory required for accessing the regular operations performed at hospital |
Justification for questionnaires sent to respondents
Questions | Justification |
List down the operating system you want to access the network services | This question has been asked to the stakeholders to know their priorities regarding the operating system convenient for them to work on |
Determine the application programs you need to calculate payment details | This question is for accountant to provide him ease of access to calculate the amount paid by the patients for their medical bills |
List down the input/output devices required | To understand what kind of information will be going to be accessed by the hospital users |
What devices you need to treat patients | This is to know different types of electronic devices required such as stress systems, ultrasounds, surgical lights and so on |
Recommend IP addressing scheme | Security and better accessibility of the devices used in a network |
What features you need in the network | This is to specify the requirements of users which in turn help me to design an effective system |
List the resources you require to access the designed network | To gather information regarding software and hardware components for the network |
Describe about network configuration | This question is asked to understand the simulation requirements for a network |
State the CPU requirements | To analyze the performance and speed that is required by the users to access the system |
Describeabout memory required for accessing the regular operations performed at hospital | Memory is used to provide better storage of data |
Collected user and business requirements
Table 2: User and business requirements
User Requirements | Business Requirements |
Network topology- start topology will be effective to design a networked system | There should be secure access to the network as the patient's details are sensitive information for hospital |
Software architecture-hierarchical model can be used | User access level has to be designed to allow access to the remote users only |
Platform- IP addresses has to be allocated to each device used in the network | The network system should be cost-effective |
Security- password authentication is required to secure the network from malicious activities | There should be financial profits received by the hospital after the implementation of network |
Networking monitoring- appropriate network monitor and control tools has to be used | Network performance should be appropriate [3] |
Validation and verification plan
I have taken a recommendation from experts to verify whether the gathered requirements are reliable to design the networked system for the hospital or not. Expert has reviewed the document which was created based on the collected user and business requirements. According to the reviews received from experts-
1. The questionnaires were appropriate as per the network design required
2. Scalability of the network is possible
3. Proper security options are identified
4. Network configuration can be identified [4]
There are many useful requirements gathering techniques that can be used except questionnaire technique.
Document Analysis: AS-IS process documents are useful to gather relevant information about designing a new networked system for the hospital. Old records are beneficial to analyze the requirements of users conveniently.
Interface Analysis: it is easier to know the user requirements from the current software system that is being used by the hospital users.
Observation: this technique helps in identifying the current situation and to recommend a suitable solution for the hospital
Reverse Engineering: this technique is used to identify the user requirements by analyzing the functions performed by the software system, its structure and operations it performs [5].
I will be using document analysis technique to collect specific needs of users for the designing of hospital networked system.

Description
The protocol which is used in this network is EIGRP which is Enhance Interior Gateway Routing Protocol. It is evolved from IGRP which is Interior Gateway Routing Protocol. EIGRP 10 is the Autonomous system number which is used in this network. All the routes are advertised in this autonomous system only, so each router has routes of each network in its routing table. It is quickest routing protocol so if there’s any change in the network so this routing protocol will quickly give an update to its neighbour router. EIGRP sends hello packet to its neighbour in every 5 seconds so new update will send to the neighbour router very quickly.
A reliable network is a network which gives the result as best as designed so in this network design network is reliable because the network has designed in the way where reliability and scalability are the first priority. As given in the image below a packet which has 50 Repetition Count with datagram size of 14000 and successfully sent without dropping any packet and the success rate is 100%.
